Elvira Kurt was the star of The Comedy Network’s series popcultured With Elvira Kurt, which was a satirical look at the inane and excessive world of pop culture. She was also the Pop Culture correspondent for CTV’s etalk Daily. The Second City Alumnus has had many years of comedic success in Canada and the U.S. She has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and her comedy specials have aired on Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime, CTV, CBC and The Comedy Network. Ellen DeGeneres, who saw her perform, called her out of the blue to ask her to help her write. Elvira wrote for Ellen’s CBS Pilot and Ellen’s HBO Special. She has also performed with Sandra Bernhardt and Jerry Seinfeld.
A native of Toronto, Elvira was voted Funniest Female Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards and received a Gemini nomination for her one-hour comedy special Elvira Kurt: I’m A Big Girl Now.
One of the most well known comics in Canada, we are very fortunate to have her performing at our event.
Opening for Elvira is Darryl Purvis. This Nova Scotian-born funny man makes comedy look easy. Simple as that. With some of the sharpest sarcasm and satire around, it’s no wonder that Darryl is one of the first-rate joke writers on the Canadian comedy scene. Darryl has performed at several festivals and clubs across North America as well as numerous national television and radio appearances such as his own "Comedy Now!" episode on CTV/The Comedy Network and the Halifax Comedy Festival on CBC-TV.
